A note from the composer...
The Flower was written in 2006 for Rebecca Willows, a third year music undergraduate student at Cardiff University.
Rebecca’s final degree recital was approaching and she wanted a song which would tie into her theme of flowers, as well as making further use of the flautist who was performing in another of her recital pieces. It seemed a nice idea to write a song for her and draw together the circumstances of knowing Rebecca as a pupil, along with the support and encouragement given to me by her Mother and meeting up with her many years later, both as students at the same University.
The Flower was first performed in May 2006 at a lunchtime recital in Keynsham, followed by Rebecca’s final degree recital in June of that year.
