A note from the composer...

Recitative and Aria reflects the idiom of operatic arias, evolving through a series of melodic variations on the initial theme. Lyrical string writing and evocative phrases create an impassioned directional force, underpinned by unexpected rhythmic impulses.

Recitative and Aria is dedicated to my good neighbours, Frances and Alan Isserlis, and the title reflects their love of opera.
