A note from the composer...
Somewhere Unknown is an unknown journey. The overall musical concept is a broad, continuously evolving musical landscape, intentionally rich in orchestral texture and tonality but with a bitter-sweet harmonic language. The movement was written during the two months following the death of my mother and is partly a direct emotional response to that period but also aspires towards a more positive and optimistic future.
"[The performance of] 'Somewhere Unknown' [by the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera] stood out. The piece, receiving its world premiere, created a thoughtful and listening hush amongst the audience at the Wales Millennium Centre and loud applause at its conclusion." Alexander Nicoll, Director of Corporate Responsibility, Liberty International
"quite stunning - a beautiful work". Will Goodchild, composer and conductor
