'Beyond the Light', one of two tracks on the Grimethorpe Colliery Band album 'Postcards from Grimethorpe' conducted by Jack Stamp, was broadcast on the new Radio 3 series, Brass Banding with Hannah Peel.
Really thrilled that my 'Beyond the Light' was featured on Radio 3 on 27 April in this exciting new series: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002b65y (listen at 15.14) - especially as it's a special piece to me personally and professionally.
It was commissioned in memory of Bramwell Tovey for the RNCM Brass Band Festival in 2023, where it was premiered by Grimethorpe Colliery Band with Ben Palmer - conductor, and then recorded by Grimethorpe with my friend and colleague Jack Stamp conducting on the Postcards from Grimethorpe album. It's received several performances since and two broadcasts in the USA (Classical Discoveries) but this is the first national radio playing in the UK.
Bramwell Tovey had previously conducted my 'Tide and Time' which was about artists in my family and had admired work by my grandfather. 'Beyond the Light' was also inspired by a family discovery of several commercial artworks of my grandfather's stored in the V&A Museum https://collections.vam.ac.uk/search/?id_person=A17948&page=1&page_size=15
