Brand new wind band arrangement of 'Serenata' premiered by The Bands of HM Royal Marines (Collingwood) in Portsmouth.
It was an honour to hear my 'Serenata' performed by the The Bands of HM Royal Marines (Collingwood) conducted by Captain Dan Button in the world premiere of the wind band version by USA composer and conductor Jack Stamp. 'Serenata' was programmed towards the end of the concert which traditionally comprises of 'Evening Hymn' and 'Sunset', 'Rule Britannia' and then the regimental marches - 'Heart of Oak' and 'A Life on the Ocean Wave' - and it was a great privilege that it took the place of 'Evening Hymn' as a moment of reflection.
It was super interesting to be given a tour as well as learn more about the life of a musician in the Royal Marines at different levels. Many thanks to all and especially Colour Sergeant Paul Saggers who arranged the performance and visit.
Special thanks as well to my good friend Jack Stamp who created this new wind band version. Jack was the International Composer in Association at Grimethorpe Colliery Band when I was the Composer in Association, and he conducted 'Serenata' on the Grimethorpe recording, to date broadcast three times on Radio 3.
Like the brass band version, the score and parts will shortly be made available free of charge in return for a donation to the British Heart Foundation. 💓
