Welcome

I am a British composer whose music has been described as  'spell-binding', 'moving', 'powerful', 'sensitive', 'stunning' and 'brilliantly creative'

My compositions have been performed by some of the world's top musicians in major concert halls and venues throughout the UK and internationally, with commissions encompassing orchestral, choral, ensemble, wind band and brass band genres, as well as being broadcast on BBC One, ITV and BBC Radio 3.

I enjoy writing for performers of all abilities, diverse occasions and, more recently, music for brass band and an increasing number of community and outreach projects. My style is melodic but seldom predictable, with rich harmonies; perhaps described as broadly tonal with a twist.

I was awarded a PhD in composition in 2010 from Cardiff University. Alongside my freelance work as a composer, I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England and also work at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.

Testimonials

“What a sensitive and powerful piece of music you have created which really reflects the feelings and thoughts of the texts of the five poems.”

"Textured colours and lyrical memories seeped through Liz Lane’s ‘Tide and Time’; music that flowed with subtle meanderings engineered by Michael Fowles between the touching reflections of Rachmaninov to the more esoteric teasings of 17th century Rosicrucianism - all linked with crafted elegance to the stanchion points of the band’s proud contesting past."
