I am a British composer whose music has been described as 'spell-binding', 'moving', 'powerful', 'sensitive', 'stunning' and 'brilliantly creative'
My compositions have been performed by some of the world's top musicians in major concert halls and venues throughout the UK and internationally, with commissions encompassing orchestral, choral, ensemble, wind band and brass band genres, as well as being broadcast on BBC One, ITV and BBC Radio 3. In 2021 I was appointed Composer in Association with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
I enjoy writing for performers of all abilities, diverse occasions and, more recently, music for brass band and an increasing number of community and outreach projects. I love working with melody but sometimes unexpectedly, often underpinned by rich harmonies -perhaps described as broadly tonal with a twist.
I was awarded a PhD in composition in 2010 from Cardiff University. Alongside my freelance work as a composer, I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England, also Associate Lecturer at the Open University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
