A first foray of my music into the world of TikTok (as far as I know!) with an excerpt of Rhythm of Light used by the National Galleries of Scotland to promote their Barbara Hepworth | Art and Life exhibition, 9 April - 2 October 2022. I was commissioned to write Rhythm of Light for the Hepworth Band and it was first performed at The Hepworth Wakefield in 2021. It's great to know it's also gone on tour to Scotland!
Barbara Hepworth grew up in Yorkshire and this section from the first movement Landscapes reflects on how memories of Barbara Hepworth's Yorkshire journeys as a child remained with her throughout her life.
'Moving through and over the West Riding landscape with my father in his car, the hills were sculptures; the roads defined the forms.' Barbara Hepworth, speaking in the BBC film Barbara Hepworth (1961).
Performed and recorded by the Hepworth Band, conductor Ryan Watkins.
