Conversations is a celebration of the life of Steven Legge [1969-2024] - musician, trombonist, conductor, educator, colleague and friend.
It can be played by any combination of seven instruments, particularly brass, with optional piano (keyboard) and a trombone trio feature.
Steve was admired for his many professional and personal attributes, including his superb musicianship and dynamic organisational skills, represented in the music by syncopated motifs, along with off-beat references to his well-loved sense of humour. He made over 34 trips to Lithuania, supporting music tuition for young people – echoes of the folk tune Kurgiria žaliuoja can be heard, at times intertwined with a harmonic nod to Steve’s love of jazz. Many of the phrases are in groups of 5+5, portraying the letters of his names, and the music closes with echoes of earlier melodies - tributes from friends and colleagues.
His husband Des shared: Steve was ‘kind, thoughtful and generous, made terrible jokes,played beautifully, made friends easily, appreciated others and always wanted to give toothers through his gift of music’. However, the last words go to Steve himself who said: ‘It

Conversations was first played by friends and colleagues at the celebration of Steve Legge’s life on 3rd May 2024 at the Matara Centre, Kingscote, near Tetbury.
